Bayou Coquille is one of the easily accessible walking trails in the Barataria Preserve at Jean Lafitte National Park. Most people associate the National Park with New Orleans’ famous airboat swamp tours, but the walking trails are another neat way to experience a bit of swamp life. I went on a beautiful March day and saw a number of gators, as well as some lizards and a nutria rat. Another upside of the walking trails: they’re free!
